The Year of Fatima officially began on Nov. 27, 2016 and will continue through Nov. 26, 2017. On May 13, 1917 Our Blessed Mother appeared to the three shepherd children of Fatima (Lucia, Francisco & Jacinta) for the first time and appeared to them consecutivelly for six months bringing a message of prayer, conversion and reaparation. As a tender Mother she becons us to turn back to God and reveals to us Her Immaculate Heart, full of love and mercy for her children.
The Twentieth and Twenty-First Century have been indelibly marked by “the Lady of the Holm-Oak” who appeared to three young, humble shepherd children with a message of hope. To this day the Shrine to Our Lady of Fatima thrives with pilgrims year-round.
It is said that the times in which we are living is the “Age of Mary”. In this “last hour” of human history, Heaven’s Queen has bent down to lowly earth to plead for her children “that all may be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth,” that is, that we may turn our hearts once again to God and to faith in Jesus Christ.
In honor of this Year dedicated to Our Lady of Fatima, Pope Francis has announced that there are three ways one may gain a plenary indulgence:
- Make a pilgrimage to any shrine dedicated to Our Lady of Fatima.
- Pray before any statue of Our Lady of Fatima solemnly exposed for public veneration in any church, oratory or proper place during the days of the apparitions, the 13th of each month from May to October 2017.
- For the elderly & infirmed: These individuals can pray in front of a statue of Our Lady of Fatima and must spiritually unite themselves to the jubilee celebrations on the days of the apparitions, the 13th of each month between May and October 2017.
How to gain the plenary indulgence:
The faithful must fulfill the ordinary conditions: go to Confession & Communion, be interiorly detached from sin, and pray for the intentions of the Holy Father. One must also pray the Our Father, recite the Creed and invoke Our Lady.
