Our Mount Carmel Novena with Father Juan Elias Medina, OCD, from the California/Arizona Province as Celebrant and homilist was another jewel set in the Teresian Year. Every evening there was approximately 200 people in attendance. In order that we could celebrate the feast of Our Mother of Carmel in union with our Holy Mother, Father devoted his novena homilies to a catechesis on St. Teresa’s life and doctrine, emphasizing her “culture of prayer” and what this means for us today. In addition, he introduced the laity to her major works and guided them in how to read and study these books while making them practical for their daily lives. On the night of Our Lady’s feast, Father focused on Holy Mother’s relationship to Our Lady of Mt. Camel and how she enriched the heritage she received from the first days of our Holy Order.
