Blesseds Louis & Zelie Martin

On October 18, 2015 Blesseds Louis and Zelie Martin, the parents of the well-known St. Therese, the “Little Flower”, were canonized. To the joy of the Carmelite Family they were  the first married couple to be canonized together. This historic event took place during the Synod on the Family held in October. The Church is setting them before our eyes as an example of the potential holiness and sanctity of family life. Louis and Zelie lived in France during the 19th Century and were married on July 13, 1858. They were blessed with 9 children, 5 of whom became religious: 4 Carmelites and one Visitandine. Leonie, the Visitandine, was the problem child in the family, but following the Little Way of her sister, St. Therese, is herself now being considered for Beatification.

May Saints Louis and Zelie intercede for us in our broken world today, that all may come to know the love, peace and friendship of God.
