March 25, 2017, Clothing Day of Sr. Bernadette

On March 25th, the feast of the Annunciation of the Lord, Danielle Veillion was clothed in the Habit of Our Lady’s Order of Carmel.  With Mary, she answered her “fiat” to God’s call to be wholly dedicated and consecrated to His service. After her time of postulancy, Danielle has taken the next step of commitment to become a religious Sister, requesting to be admitted to the Novitiate.

“My Sister, what do you ask?”

“I ask to be admitted to this community of Discalced Carmelites of the Monastery of Mary, Mother of Grace, to experience your way of life, to follow Christ more perfectly, dedicating myself completely to the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel.”

As our Constitutions so poignantly express, Carmelites belong in a special way to Our Lady.  She is our Mother, our sister and the contemplative “par excellence”. She is the “glorious Virgin whose Habit we wear so unworthily,” as Our Holy Mother St. Teresa reminds us. She is our model and our guide, the woman filled with grace whose union with Christ and life of hidden prayer continues to change the world.  It is her example, that we as Carmelites hope to imitate.

Mother Regina prayed:  “Receive Mary’s garment of salvation.  See in this Scapular the embrace of Mary’s protecting love and the sign of your total dedication to her in her holy Order.”  Mother then gave Danielle her new name:  from today on she will be called Sr. Bernadette of the Immaculate Conception.

Sr. Bernadette will serve the Community along with Sr. Aimee as an Extern Sister, the visible face of our Carmelite Community.  She will be the gracious witness of our life of prayer to the people who daily knock at our door and home, visiting the Monastery to pray in our chapel or ask for prayers.  She will be “Mary” for all those who are experiencing suffering, sorrow or pain, loneliness or doubt, as well as sharing in their joys and blessings.  We are privileged to have her as our beautiful and loving Sister of Mater Gratiae’s Carmel!
