*Enrollment in the Brown Scapular on July 16th, the Solemnity of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel.

The annual Novena in honor of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel will begin on Monday, July 8, 2019 through Tuesday, July 16th, the Solemninty of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel.  This year our focal point will be the titles addressed to Our Lady in the ancient and famous Carmelite Hymn, Flos Carmeli.

Flos Carmeli

Flow’r of Carmel, Vine Blossom Laden,
Joy of Heaven, who yet a lowly maid bore God’s Holy One;
Becoming Mother without the aide of man,
bless Carmel’s children as you alone can,
O Star of the Sea.

Root of Jesse, bearing the promised flow’r,
still be with us, guard us at every hour like a Mother;
O Virgin, Lily fair, a flowering mid the thorns
your fragrance shed on us until the vision dawns
of Christ, our brother.

Trusty armor, confidence in the fight,
war is raging; give us the saving might of your Scapular;
We walk uncertain, your prudent counsel give,
foes press around us, help us at last to live,
where true glories are.

Gentle Mother, great Queen of Carmel’s land,
save your people, stretch out the helping hand of affection;
O gate of heaven, our sure and certain Key
Bring us to safety, where we at last may see,
Joy in perfection.

As we honor Our Lady during these nine days of prayer and Eucharistic Liturgies, we hope to deepen our love and appreciation for her presence in our lives and in the Church today.  The rich history of the Order of Carmel, its struggle for survivial amid wars, famines, and plagues which were conquered by the Blessed Virgin’s gift of the Brown Scapular and her promises are both inspirational and timely for the spiritual battles being waged in our times.  Join us as we renew our consecration and dedication to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel.
